XP is a "rare genetic defect in DNA repair mechanisms; characterized by severe sensitivity to all sources of UV radiation (especially sunlight). There are a wide range of symptoms. Most common is blistering or freckling on minimum sun exposure to UV radiation by staying indoors with sunlight blocked out, use of protective clothing, sunscreens and sunglasses, and avoidance of other known carcinogens. It can be fatal. There is no cure for XP. The damage is cumulative and irreversible." - from the "XP Report" (Summer 1999 publication)
We volunteered at Camp Sundown during the week of July 24-28, 2000. We sponsored a family once again this summer. A successful auction on eBay helped us raise money recently to benefit Xeroderma Pigmentosum Society. A Penny Social was also held on October 22, 2000, to benefit Camp Sundown.
